All aboard the night train
Transport for London is the body in charge of running the London Underground. The launch of its Night Tube service in September 2015 is a major step and the company had a lot of information to communicate to its 16,000 plus staff spread across London in stations, depots and offices. It also needed to provide its staff with the opportunity to ask their own questions regarding the changes that would affect them and their passengers. Matrix were tasked with making sure the communications were both engaging and creative.
Working alongside other agencies such as Information is Beautiful and ITN, Matrix delivered a range of feature stories to ensure staff would be fully informed. Subject matter covered topics such as the why behind Night Tube through to serious issues of safety. All were presented in a primarily digital environment with supporting print activity.
Specialising in powerful story-telling, we used a platform called Shorthand to create features with a mix of imagery, interactive text, info graphics and embedded video. In addition Matrix created an online Q&A Hub allowing staff to search for topics and key questions, as well as to ask their own questions.
The Night Tube is a landmark in the development of London Underground and therefore a story that needed to be well told. The ongoing campaign is proving its effectiveness with high engagement levels and awareness of Night Tube increasing with staff and passengers.
